Another beautiful evening at the Waikiki Yacht Club, the perfect place for our regular Thursday evening dinner gatherings. Visiting Rotarian Kazumi Toyanu from Tokyo, Japan joins members Rosa Chen,Nancy Manley, and PP Harry Kubota for dinner and fellowship. Past President Chuck Harris took the helm again in Pres Paul Jurcsak's absence. Pual was away on business in Guam. Program Chair Dianne Ward announced this month's members' birthdays for Lei Darcey, Richard Hughes, Paul Jurcsak, and Rich Zegar. Only Rich Zegar was present to accept his birthday
Sandy Gaston once again delivered the Rotary Minute, continuing the tradition of keeping us well informed. Foundation Director Rich Zegar reminds us that we still haven't reached our goal of Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) contributors. Club Treasurer Gloria Lao receives her Paul Harris +5 pin along with congratulations from Foundation Director Rich. Past Presidents John Meyer and Win Schoneman announce a contest for members who bring in the most items for the Jazz Fundraiser silent auction. Here, PP John holds a donated item for the auction, a beautiful hand-made Koa jewelry box, made by member Jonathan Okabe who's at lower-left in this photo.
Secretary Al Dixon handed out fundraiser tickets for members to sell again this year and urged everyone's participation to make the event another success. PADG & PP Liz Kane introduces our guest speaker, fellow Rotarian Dave Benson. Speaker Dave Benson is Co-Chair of the Rotary Global Peace Forum beginning at the end of 2012, held in three international cites. The three cities are Hiroshima Japan, Berlin Germany, and right here in Honolulu. Our forum here will be held in January of 2013. Speaker Benson explains what each local Rotary club in District 5000 can do to contribute to the Global Forum event.
Here's a list of those action items for the forum. PP Chuck Harris had our guest speaker sign the book that we will donate in his name to our adopted elementary school.
