Description: David C. Duffy, Professor of Botany, Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology (EECB) told us about their efforts to eradicate fire ants. Fire ants, though the size of a celery seed, have a fierce bite. They have invaded Kauai, Hawaii, and now Oahu. To check your garden for them, spread a bit of peanut butter on a chopstick and lay it on your garden floor. If they gather on your chopstick, call the State Pest Hotline: 808-643-PEST
